Sashiko geometric Hand Embroidered 100% Cotton Cushion cover
Hand embroidered by rural women artisans from central India, this 100% cotton cushion cover is an excellent addition to your home decor. The motif uses the traditional Japanese embroidery technique of Sashiko which means "little stabs". This multi-cultural cover with a social conscience is part of our TalesonSilk x Ahambhumika collection.
Ahambhumika is an NGO based in Bhopal, India. They support 30 rural women artisans with the aim to provide them with a sustainable livelihood, in two villages on the outskirts of Bhopal. These women are proficient in hand embroidery and make embroidered panels which are then transformed into cushion covers such as this one by a stitching unit comprising of another small group of rural women.
We fell in love with not just their work, which is exceptional, but also the fact that they are working to support these women in a way that they can become self-sustaining.
