Hand embroidered by rural women artisans from central India, this 100% cotton cushion cover will be a beautiful summer addition to your conservatory. The motif on the cover is that of peacocks in a tree. Peacock is the national bird of India and is a much beloved motif of artisans. This cover with a social conscience is part of our TalesonSilk x Ahambhumika collection.
Ahambhumika is an NGO based in Bhopal, India. They support 30 rural women artisans with the aim to provide them with a sustainable livelihood, in two villages on the outskirts of Bhopal. These women are proficient in hand embroidery and make embroidered panels which are then transformed into cushion covers such as this one by a stitching unit comprising of another small group of rural women.
We fell in love with not just their work, which is exceptional, but also the fact that they are working to support these women in a way that they can become self-sustaining.
We recommend combining this with our "Owls on a tree" cushion cover for a stunning effect!
